Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. sweet Italian sausage (Optional)
  • 1 medium onion -chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves -minced
  • 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 teaspoons salt 
  • 3 teaspoons Italian seasoning 
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves 
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup minced fresh flat-leaf parsley 
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese 
  • 15 oz. (1 3/4 cups) whole milk Ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 
  • 1 large egg
  • 12 lasagna noodles Instructions

Instructions:

  1. Boil pasta: In a large pot of salted water boil lasagna noodles.
  2. Prepare meat sauce: Cook sausage and ground beef with onion and garlic and all other ingredients listed above. Drain well, then add the pasta sauce & simmer it for a few minutes to thicken.
  3. Combine cheese mixture: Stir the cheese mixture together in a bowl.
  4. Layer & bake: Layer the meat sauce and cheese mixture with lasagna noodles and bake until the top of the lasagna is golden brown.
